BY: Manduria Belotte
Some of the Benefits of a Plant-based Diet:
- Lowers the risk of Heart Disease.
- Reduces the risk of diabetes.
- Helps maintain a healthy BMI.
- Strengthens the immune system.
- Increase in energy level.
Why are plant-based meals in school cafeterias important?
Implementing plant-based meals into lunch menus are important. Although majority of students may eat the following foods: dairy, eggs, meat, and fish, I believe it is important that school lunch menus have options for students and staff who follow a plant-based diet (Staff and students who choose not to consume dairy, eggs, meat, honey and fish). It would be great for others who want to step out of their consumption comfort zone.
Plant-Based: diet consisting mostly or entirely of foods derived from plants, including vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, legumes and fruits (without the consumption of honey, dairy, eggs, meat, and fish).
